Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Quyll is a desktop writing application built with a local-first architecture. Your privacy is fundamental to how we design and build Quyll. This policy explains what data we access, how we handle it, and your rights.

2. Data Storage

All project data — including manuscripts, characters, locations, world-building entries, and application settings — is stored locally on your device in SQLite databases within your operating system's app data directory. Quyll does not transmit, collect, or store any of your creative content on remote servers.

3. Google Drive Integration

Quyll offers an optional Cloud Backup feature powered by Google Drive. When you choose to enable this feature:

• The app requests access only to files it creates in your Google Drive (using the drive.file scope). It cannot read, modify, or delete any other files on your Drive.
• OAuth authentication tokens are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to any third-party server.
• You can revoke Quyll's access at any time through your Google Account permissions.
• Basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) is retrieved solely to display your account in the app's backup interface. This information is not stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere.

4. Analytics (Opt-In)

Quyll offers optional, anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the application. Analytics are disabled by default and only enabled if you explicitly opt in during the first-launch prompt or through Settings → Privacy.

When opted in, we collect:

• Session duration
• Feature usage frequency (e.g., which tools and panels you interact with)
• Theme and accent color preferences
• Export format usage
• Number of projects created
• World database category usage

We do not collect:

• Manuscript content, filenames, or any creative writing
• Personal information or identifying data
• Keystroke logging or input content
• IP addresses or precise location data

Analytics are powered by Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics provider that does not use cookies, does not track users across applications, and does not collect personally identifiable information. You can opt out at any time via Settings → Privacy.

5. Third-Party Services

Quyll integrates with the following third-party services:

• Google Drive (optional) — For cloud backup of your projects. Only accesses files Quyll creates.
• Aptabase (optional, opt-in) — For anonymous usage analytics. Privacy-focused, no cookies, no PII.
• LemonSqueezy — For processing premium subscription payments. Quyll never sees, stores, or processes your credit card information. All billing data is handled by LemonSqueezy under their own privacy policy.

There are no advertising networks, tracking pixels, or other third-party integrations.

6. Payment Data

Premium subscriptions for Quyll's AI writing tools are processed entirely by LemonSqueezy. When you subscribe:

• Payment information (credit card, billing address) is collected and managed exclusively by LemonSqueezy.
• Quyll only stores a license key locally on your device to verify your subscription status.
• We do not have access to your full payment details.
• LemonSqueezy's privacy policy governs all payment-related data.

Donations made through Ko-fi or GitHub Sponsors are processed by those respective platforms and governed by their own privacy policies.

7. Data Security

All data remains on your local filesystem under your operating system's standard security protections. When using Cloud Backup, data is transmitted directly between your device and Google Drive over secure HTTPS connections. No intermediary servers are involved.

8. Children's Privacy

Quyll does not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Quyll after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
