1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Quyll ("the app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the app.

2. Description of Service

Quyll is a free, open-source desktop application designed for fiction writing, world-building, and manuscript management. It provides tools for drafting manuscripts, organizing characters and locations, planning story arcs, and backing up projects to the cloud.

3. User Content & Ownership

You retain full and complete ownership of all content you create using Quyll. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Manuscripts, chapters, and drafts
• Characters, locations, organizations, and all world-building data
• Plot outlines, notes, and story plans
• Exported documents in any format

Quyll does not claim any intellectual property rights over your creative work. Your stories are yours.

4. License

Quyll is provided under an open-source license. You may use the software for any personal or commercial creative projects without restriction. The source code is available on GitHub.

5. Google Drive Backup

Quyll offers an optional Cloud Backup feature that integrates with Google Drive. By enabling this feature, you authorize Quyll to:

• Create backup files in your Google Drive
• Read and download backup files that Quyll has created
• Delete backup files that Quyll has created (when you choose to)

Quyll only accesses files it has created and cannot access any other content on your Google Drive. You may revoke this authorization at any time through your Google Account settings.

6. Premium Subscription (AI Tools)

Quyll offers optional premium AI writing tools available through a paid subscription at $5 per month or $50 per year. Premium features include AI-powered writing assistance, brainstorming, and grammar analysis — all running locally on your device.

• A valid license key, obtained through LemonSqueezy, is required to access premium features.
• All new users receive a 7-day free trial of premium features upon first installation.
• Upon subscription expiration or cancellation, premium features are locked immediately.
• Core writing features — including the manuscript editor, world database, plot planner, cloud backup, export, and all themes — remain free and will never be locked behind a subscription.
• Subscription management (billing, cancellation, upgrades) is handled through LemonSqueezy.

7. Refund Policy

• Monthly subscriptions: Refunds are available within 7 days of the initial purchase.
• Annual subscriptions: Refunds are available within 14 days of the initial purchase.
• Refund requests are processed through LemonSqueezy. After the refund window has closed, no refunds will be issued for the remainder of the billing period.
• Free trial periods are not eligible for refunds.

8. Donations

• Donations made through Ko-fi or GitHub Sponsors are entirely voluntary and are not required to use Quyll.
• Donors may receive early access to beta builds and upcoming features as a thank-you perk.
• Donations are non-refundable.
• Donation perks are provided on a best-effort basis and do not constitute a service agreement or guarantee.

9. Analytics

• Quyll may collect anonymous usage analytics when you explicitly opt in through the first-launch prompt or Settings.
• Analytics data is used solely to understand feature usage patterns and improve the application.
• No personal information, manuscript content, or identifying data is collected.
• You may opt out of analytics at any time through Settings → Privacy.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

Quyll is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that:

• The software will be error-free or uninterrupted
• Defects will be corrected in a timely manner
• The software will meet your specific requirements

11. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall the developer or contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, manuscripts, creative work, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of Quyll, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

12. User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for:

• Maintaining regular backups of your data and creative work
• Ensuring your device meets the minimum requirements to run the software
• Complying with applicable laws when using the software

While Quyll provides cloud backup features, the developer is not responsible for data loss resulting from hardware failure, software bugs, user error, or any other cause.

13. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of Quyll after any modifications constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

14. Termination

You may stop using Quyll at any time by uninstalling the application. These terms survive termination with respect to any obligations or liabilities incurred prior to termination.
